A Compilation That Brings Quiet Drama, But Lacks The Ooh La La Factor It Promises
Stop right there! "The French Art of Seduction" certainly sounds like a saucy and sexy package of adult entertainment choices, doesn't it? Keep reading. I love the idea of DVD compilations, but I almost never purchase them. Most contain mainstream film and (1) if there are films I like, they are generally coupled with awful choices or (2) they have films I've already bought, but in better format presentations. But I think the idea of bringing international fare together, such as in this collection, at a reasonable price is a great way for viewers to sample various movies. This quintessentially French collection is absolutely designed for people who are familiar with the more arty French film aesthetic. All four films are introspective, contemplative, and leisurely paced character studies. Each has merits to recommend it--but if you're looking for Ooh La La and seduction, these films fall fairly short of that promise. That said, you can make up your own mind whether this sets...
