Abbado Conducts Mahler: Symphony 5 [Blu-ray]

Superb in every way
It's a great pleasure to see this appear in blu-ray. This DVD is superb in every way. The performance is incandescent, and the visual quality is greatly enhanced from the original (non blu-ray) issue. These concerts by Claudio Abbado and the Lucerne Festival Orchestra are the finest Mahler performances we have ever had. Now let's hope their performance of the Seventh, which appeared in 2006, will be issued soon on blu-ray.

Experience this Mahler 5
It almost goes without saying that Abbado and the Lucerne Orchestra give a superb performance. You won't be disappointed. The surround sound too is exceptionally vivid, with the force of the fortissimo near the start of the first movement almost hitting you like a shock wave. Soloists are perhaps slightly less "highlighted" than in previous issues but the overall sound is very natural and impressive. Recommended - without reservation.

PERFECTION
I received my copy two weeks ago and already have watched it four times. Frankly, it is quite boring to review Abbado's Mahler symphonies, nothing to complain about. The picture and sound are perfect and the performance of-course. I would say that the picture quality is similar to the third symphony and the performance and sound quality are better than his CD from many years ago. You will not regret it.
